| Frieze - for high style and durability, the West Coast trend making its way across the country is frieze and shag carpet. Frieze is an updated version of shag and is used both as wall-to-wall carpet and area rugs. Shag and frieze carpet is similar to a texture carpet in that footprints and vacuum sweeper marks are disguised. The textured appearance is acquired by a high twist level on the plied yarns. This high twist level causes the tuft to twist back upon itself providing a kinked appearance. Higher twist levels provide enhanced performance characteristics, when compared to lower twist products with the same construction attributes. | |
| Cut-loop - carpets, characterized by upright yarn tufts, are the most popular type of carpet sold. Very versatile, cut-pile styles are suitable for any area of the house. Traditional cut-pile style is often called a saxony or a plush. These carpets typically feature yarns that are twisted together to create distinct tip definition. Generally this style is made with a high cut pile and a low loop pile with a design , or a level loop and level cut pile (Tip Shear). The low loop is used to help keep the pattern in the carpet from matting and loosing its definition. Generally this style is made in two or more colors to hide soil and show less footprints.
